Dana 35 gear oil capacity.
I have scoured the internet and I cannot find one concise recommendation for differential oil weight. I have a 97, 4.0, 5 speed manual, Dana 30 with air locker and an 8.8 with LSD. I have 35" BFG KOs on 15x8 wheels. I have read I can use anywhere from 75W90 up to 85W140 conventional oil with an additive for the LSD.
Jan 1, 2018 · The Dana 60 spec is just under 3 quarts. In my personal experience, the Dana 50 will take about 2.5 - 2.75 quarts to fill to the plug. As far as I know, the D50 and D60 use the same case, so they SHOULD have the same capacity. Be warned though, if your inner axle seals are bad, overfilling will make that obvious. The fluid capacity on your rig is about 24.5 pints - 6 Quarts. 1 quart low should not be the straw that broke the camel's back. Received 2 Likes on 2 Posts. Usually add 2 bottles of the Ford LSD additive to a large differential like a 70. You can use 75W-90, 80W-90, 85W-140. Just about anything specified as gear oil. TJ diff fluid. I am wanting to change the fluid in the front and rear diffs and I am not sure of the capacity or which axle I have. The front is stamped with DANA 40869-136-0 and the rear is DANA 43225-115-0. I am thinking the front is a Dana 35 and the rear is a Dana 44 but I might be wrong. This is the first time I've changed out the gear oil in a scout and I was only able to get 1 quart in before the oil started leaking back out. Is this correct?
If it's a '75, it will be a 9 1/4", it will have the 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern, as will the '77 model axle and any other 1/2 ton axle built between '75 and '79. In '80 they went back to the larger 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern.
