For a new player I recommend starting in forest rather than desert so that lowers the number a bit, but still very common. If you just want more resources do what Ithnann suggested and check the settings. Lower frequency makes the ore more clumped, bigger size puts more ore on the map. Very low frequency and very big size means you get the biggest possible patches, with plenty of space between them. Setting Water to very low frequency reduces the number of stupid little watering holes that just get in the way. 3.
