Today I noticed 2 things. 1) the little rubber seal on my rear dana 35 pumpkin oozes oil when I press it. 2) the rear differential is really hot (can touch it for about 3 sec before pulling away).Faulty thermostat. Clogged radiator fins, cooling tubes, or coolant hose. Heater core problems. Defective blower motor or resistor. Bad fan or serpentine belt. Airlock in the cooling system. Stagnant antifreeze. Turbulent or insufficient airflow. Head gasket failure. It seems that there are more complaints from owners with 12 plus 3.6 JK's running hot, but in most instances it's normal. The variable speed fan is a better set up than prior year JK's. Beginning in 2012 with the 3.6 Chrysler went to a variable speed fan, basically low-med-high. A 3.6 will usually run at 210-230 with the AC off.Get it up to operating temp, then top off the overflow. Take it for a few miles drive and then top it off again. Might be losing some from the radiator as previously suggested, so check it again after the next 50 miles. Thermostat is not that old (about a year) so I replaced the PCV valve which was toast (and quite a pain in the arse). At idle or even low speeds (45-50) it’s fine. It indicates the engine is not reaching operating temperature. From what I can find the 3.6L V-6 takes a 203 degree thermostat. The temp gauge on your dash is just an implied temp, not an actual reading. Your EVIC should show actual coolant temps. But to answer your question; yes, the 3.6 runs hot. A rich air.fuel mixture will give an O2 out of spec fault; however, the problem could be the IAC valve not working and making the fuel rich and giving an out of spec reading setting off the code. Along these lines you could also have a bad fuel pressure regulator.

But like you, normal temps for my 3.6 is just slightly above the 1/4 line. Just had the heater core, radiator, oil cooler (all heat exchangers) replaced in my 13 JKUR (17k miles). Big job, took a week. Would have run roughly $3k if it for warrantee. Test the O2 sensors, they can get old and slow to react. Typical O2 sensor service life is about 100,000-150,000 miles. Replace the coolant temperature sensor on the thermostat housing.
