Welcome to FTE. Yeupp, the 400 pistons will fit with the 4.000" crank...the only thing different between the 351M and the 400 is the crank and pistons. Now, presupposing the bore on the 351M is in good shape and consistent, and the 351M pistons are the same, I would mic the bore and old pistons and compare 'em to the 400 pistons. This made it cheaper for Ford to produce two displacements using one block casting. One thing the 351C, 351M, and 400M have in common is that they used a cast-iron crankshaft in all applications. can be stroked to 400 ci by installing a 400M crank. The 351C can be stroked by modifying and installing a 400M crankshaft. Cleveland mains are much smaller than 351W,M, & 400. 351W and 400 bearings are different. 351M/400 and 351C use the same rod bearings. As for putting a W crank in a 351M/400, you can do it, I did it. 351M crank pulley. I finally got it off!!! The damper is actually warped. That might be why I had to replace the mains. I was in the scrape yard looking for a damper and found a 400M from a 79 truck and bought it for $150. It actually runs. Thinking about rebuilding it and leaving the 351M in the truck alone.
