If it is about the challenge itself, it disables all of the bonuses from equipment for the duration of the challenge, including adventure stats so you will need bonuses from other sources to compensate.

Well, looking at the challenges overall, I'm just wondering why they have almost no real rewards. I finished the 100 Level Challenges, No Rebirth Challenges, the 2nd 24h Challenge, and 3 of the Blind Challenges. I get progression will be painfully slow but I haven't actually needed to use the rebirth mechanic yet.

Most people would recommend doing the challenges much later than you have been. You should be fine to ignore them for a while and just push forward gradually.
