Shilen barrel review.

Jan 15, 2011 · Anyway my 10/22 with the ER shaw barrel shot .850 center to center at 75m. and my CZ452 shot .6 center to center. Both were 10 shot groups. My CZ has a 1.5lb trigger weight and was outfitted with a leupold 3-10 mk4 m3. The 10/22 has a 4-16 pst which is a bit washed out and breaks at almost 5 pounds. Shilen makes great quality barrels, but not because the rifling style. The performance comes from good quality blanks with sharp tooling, good quality control, so on, so on. The ratchet rifling is marketing. Maybe it makes a difference, but it's not enough of a difference for a mere mortal like myself to notice. Straight Shooter.Welcome to Shilen Rifles, Inc. I’ll go with the Shilen ratchet .850 straight and a length of 24”. I looked at the list of equipment that top competitors are using and Shilen has much more presence than Benchmark. The 0.850 straight seems just a better fit for the factory varmint walnut stock…. Especially when you go with 24” length.

Had a criterion remage barrel in 243 8tw. On a trued action it shot great, lots of groups in the .2s&.3s. Cleaned up as easy as my barts and kriegers. I pulled the barrel at 2400-2500, it's been 6yrs ago, so kinda fuzzy. It still shot under 3/4moa, with no flyers or wild shots at distance, but it had lost 125fps.

Re: Shilen Match VS Select Match barrels. One is straighter that the other and cleans up easier but they both seem to shoot well. My select match cleans up without a trace of copper while the other tends to have a small amout of copper in it. Re: Lilja vs. Shilen. Follow this link to the 2009 national championship Equipment list. There's alot more Shilens than Lilja's in the top 20. I have both and they both shoot great. Keep in mind BR cycles through equipment and next year most likely there will be a different barrel on top. The BR guys are always looking for an edge.
