There is a air intake heater used on the 7.3L California version. It is located between the inter-cooler and the intake manifold. It is controlled by a relay next to the fuel filter. To some folks not familiar with the CA emission system, they think it is the glow plug relay. Controlled and monitored by the PCM.This system will operate when the sum of coolant temp and inlet air temp is less than 109* F. Make sure to wait to start until the intake air heater light goes out. The easiest way to see if the heater is working is to pull the air intake pipe off of the intake manifold.
