Dec 9, 2019 · Honda Pilot 2006 LX 4WD J35A9, bought May 2015 with 108,000 Kms / 67,000 miles.Now 270,000 Kms/ 164,000 miles. Maintenance so far: New aftermarket rad, New OEM PCV valve, New Costco battery, New intake air duct, "Reman" Denso alternator from Amazon, cupro-nickel brake lines on all 4 corners, OEM accesssory belt tensioner pulley and idler pulley, Aisin TB kit, OEM front sway bar bushings, full ... They adjusted the valves and replaced the valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals, they charged $79.14 for OEM parts and $528 for labor, for a total of $607.14. I wouldn't call a Pilot with those miles as high mileage.Its rare for 2003-2005 to suffer any valve issues. 06s had some issues I recall possibly VCM related. I would say that due to the passage of miles that this is not related to the timing belt work.
Two mechanics told me a new engine, or a rebuild. But this 06 pilot has 120000 miles, the lifters have been adjusted, they checked the pistons. Everything was in spec. (thank you Honda) the cam shaft has been adjusted. I have also tried different types of oil in order to eliminate this ticking noise. I even ran this pilot on different octane gas.
